New Year in the Office

Now that we’re well into January and most of us are back at work with new year resolutions about our diets and exercise regimes, how much have you considered extending those resolutions to your everyday desk habits? Many of us spend 7-8 hours a day sitting at a desk (maybe even more)! That’s a third of your day! But more than that, what you do during the working week is a great way to form habits because you work on a similar schedule (for the most part) every day! I have found that since I started attending fitness classes in my lunch break 3 times a week, I go to the classes more consistently and don’t even think about it anymore – I just do it. This is what makes the workplace an ideal place to form new habits!Read More »

Coconut Oil Hair Treatment

Benefits of Coconut Oil for your Hair

A friend of mine loves to put coconut oil treatments in her hair and sometimes comes out during the day with her hair slicked back into a bun when she has the treatment in. After seeing her a few times with her sleek shiny bun, I thought I would give it a try.

There are so many claims around about the benefits of coconut oil and sometimes it’s hard to know what to believe. I’ve read some pretty big claims, one claim was that coconut oil will prevent or reverse grey hair by regenerating hair cells. I not sure how trustworthy that is but it would be pretty awesome if it were true! Another claim, that seems more reliable, is that coconut oil reduces hair loss (as it has been used for this purpose in India since ancient times). While I don’t know how effectively this works, there seems to be a common theme; coconut oil is good for and rejuvenates hair.

Feel Good About Christmas Spirit

As all of my friend’s know, I am a BIG Christmas person! I love the whole concept, spending time together, giving, eating, shamelessly singing Christmas carols and seeing which pop star is going to release a Christmas album this year (even though it’s only about once every five years there’s actually a decent one)! Buying myself one special decoration each year, all the Christmas specials on TV and Christmas trees and lights decorating the world! But Christmas can also be a stressful time and seem more like a chore and an expensive one at that! We often lose sight of what it’s all about, despite the barrage of B-grade movies telling us all about it all through December (just so we’re clear, I do not count Love Actually in that class, that is clearly an excellent movie).

Christmas is the perfect season in which to practice mindfulness. Be in the moment and enjoy it for what it is, take out the bits you don’t like and keep what you do! It doesn’t need to be consumeristic and heartless, it can be as it’s supposed to be, a time to enjoy yourself and share a bit of love in the world. So here are a few ideas on how to bring a bit more Christmas spirit into your Christmas!Read More »

Homemade Avocado and Oatmeal Facials

There are so many great things about homemade facials! If you pick the right ingredients, they can be much more effective and better for your skin than the shop bought equivalents. This is for two reasons, firstly the ingredients are going to be much fresher and therefore more potent and secondly because you won’t be adding any filler ingredients or preservatives, and really, what’s the point in having filler ingredients when you don’t need them?Read More »

Some Beautiful Cookbooks

I find it so easy to be inspired to cook healthy meals (and snacks) with an old fashioned hard copy cookbook! It’s so relaxing to sit down and flick through the pages with a cup of tea, deciding what you feel like. While you can always find a good recipe for a wholesome meal online, sometimes it’s nice to flick through an actual recipe book. You can spend hours trawling online trying to find something that you feel like when you have no idea what you’re looking for!Read More »

Balancing You Time: Lifestyle Swaps

Me time is so important in a balanced lifestyle and to maintain good mental health but it’s so easy to forget about or “not have time for”! We often spend too much time watching screens and not taking time out to nurture ourselves away from technology. I am currently taking part in a spring cleanse program called barrebodyfive which is run by barre body, my favourite exercise class. One element of the 5 week spring challenge is to have at least 5 minutes of you-time each day and make 5 lifestyle swaps. Here are a few of my swaps/me time activities that I’d love to share with you!Read More »

18 Excellent Trashy Movies in 18 Years

No matter how high-brow you try to be, no-one can deny the appeal of a feel-good trashy movie! Sometimes you need to just switch off your focus and watch something that is enjoyable just the way it is (as long as you don’t start criticising it for being too unrealistic or pulling holes in the plot). In writing this post I by no means intend to be exhaustive of all good trashy movies of all time. I have confined myself to the past couple of decades and picked out some stand alone movies that I can watch over and over and just make me happy!!Read More »
